History of the Health and Human Services Committee
The Health and Human Services Committee was formed in the spring of 2016 to bring together human service agencies for collaborative discussion and improved coordination across the community.
The initial meeting of the Paris-Bourbon County Human Services Group took place in May 2016 with 19 representatives from various agencies. Since that time, the group has grown to include more than 80 members representing a diverse mix of public, private, faith-based, governmental, nonprofit, and elected organizations.
The group’s vision is to establish a unified network of government agencies, community organizations, and schools that enables the Paris-Bourbon County community to access services safely, conveniently, and affordably. Its mission is to coordinate these entities to simplify access to resources for all residents.
Since its formation, participating agencies have identified transportation, housing, job training, and the increasing challenge of addiction and opioid overdoses as significant barriers facing the community.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the group adapted by transitioning to virtual meetings. Support from the University of Kentucky HEALing Communities Study grant and the Bourbon County Health Department’s Community Health Improvement Plan helped renew momentum and strengthen the committee’s focus.
This period of growth and renewed purpose led to the rebranding of the group as the Paris-Bourbon County Health and Human Services Committee, reflecting an ongoing commitment to collaboration and community impact.
