In September 2022, the Bourbon County Health Department, conducted a survey to gauge residents' perspectives on the health status and outcomes of Bourbon County. This initiative aimed to identify the most pressing health concerns within the community to better inform future health strategies and interventions. A total of 631 residents participated in the survey.

The survey results revealed that Mental Health was one of the leading concerns among residents. Specifically, 43.1% of those surveyed indicated that mental health issues were a major health concern in Bourbon County. This large percentage highlights the community's recognition of the importance of mental well-being and the need for enhanced mental health services and resources. The focus on this issue mirror wider societal shifts where mental health awareness has gained more importance, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, which has exacerbated mental health issues for many.

To address this health concern in Bourbon County, the Health Department has partnered with the Paris-Bourbon County Health and Human Services Committee to established a mental health workgroup. This team will focus on enhancing treatment accessibility, raising public awareness about mental health concerns, and provide community initiatives to address mental health outcomes in Bourbon County.
